Minister for School Education K.A.Sengottaiyan and Minister for Environment K.C.Karuppanan, on Friday, raised the shutters of Bhavani Sagar Dam to release water into Lower Bhavani Project Canal.

District Collector S. Kathiravan, Member of Parliament A.Ganeshamoorthi, and MLAs took part in the function.

Mr. Sengottaiyan told presspersons that water was released from the dam for wet land cultivation as per the instructions of Chief Minister Edappadi.K.Palaniswami. “The water to be released till December 11 would irrigate 1.03 lakh acres in Sathyamangalam, Nambiyoor, Gobichettipalayam, Bhavani, Erode, Perundurai, Modakurichi and Kodumudi in Erode districts, Kangeyam in Tiruppur, and Aravarakurichi in Karur district.” On Friday, the water level in the dam was 93.8ft against the full reservoir level of 105ft.

Total discharge including Arakankotai-Thadapalli canal, Kalingarayan canal and Lower Bhavani Project canal was 1,305 cusecs.
