A sting video showing former MLA and Aam Aadmi Party candidate from Kasturba Nagar Madan Lal talking about distributing liquor during a party rally has surfaced this week. The video was uploaded on the Internet recently.
However, the AAP Volunteer Action Manch (AVAM), who claims to have conducted the sting, and Mr. Lal have different reactions to the video.
The AVAM claims that in the video, Mr. Lal is talking about distributing liquor and food for making party convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s nomination rally a success.
However, the AAP leader refuted the claim saying the footage is from April last year and that he himself had shot the entire sequence and submitted it to the party to “expose those making the proposal to indulge in malpractices”.
While the audio in the footage is not very clear, the date of the rally is stated as tees (30). However, the month has not been specified.
In the video, when a person tells Mr. Lal that he will ferry people from a Malviya Nagar slum, he is asked how the arrangement will be made as they are not going to give any money.
The person replies that they will serve the crowds food and alcohol to make the rally a success. Mr. Lal tells him that food and alcohol should be offered if need be.
The video was uploaded on January 20. AVAM’s Amit, who posted it on YouTube, said the sting was conducted in December. So far, it has received over 7,000 hits on the video sharing website.
Claiming that it is a ploy to defame him, Mr. Lal added that it was uploaded at the time of campaigning to hurt his electoral prospects. A lawyer by profession, he further said that if need be he will file a defamation suit against those behind the video.
Other AAP leaders said they had not seen the video and could comment only after watching it. They, however, said if any further action was warranted, it will be taken.
