Chief Minister and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) Chairman Arvind Kejriwal on Friday visited the Malviya Nagar Water Services (MNWS) for a review of the project.
A statement issued by the government said he was briefed by DJB and MNWS officials on the facility. Mr. Kejriwal was accompanied by DJB Vice-Chairman Dinesh Mohaniya, and MLAs Somnath Bharti, Kartar Singh Tanwar, Ajay Dutt and Naresh Yadav.
The project, which started as a pilot project in 2013 on PPP mode, seeks to improve efficiency of the water network under Malviya Nagar UGR command area, which has five Assembly constituencies under it — Malviya Nagar, Greater Kailash, Ambedkar Nagar, Chhatarpur and Mehrauli.
MNWS officials told Mr. Kejriwal that the facility is spread over 14 sq km with a network of 219 km covering 3.82 lakh people. The total number of metered connections in the area is reported to be 43,087, the statement said. “MNWS told him that the project had increased coverage, there were no complaints of contamination, and there had been an increase in revenue and the number of house service connections achieved,” said a senior government official. The CM also visited the MNWS’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, the scientific monitoring system which controls everything, the statement said.
