In order to address congestion around Humayun’s Tomb and Nizamuddin area in general, Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday ordered the South Delhi Municipal Corporation to study the feasibility of setting up three parking lots there.

The area around Nizamuddin Dargah, including Mathura Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg and Lodi Road, witnesses heavy traffic due to a large number of visitors to the shrine as well as Humayun’s Tomb nearby.

Mr. Baijal, who inspected the area on Saturday, asked the civic body to come up with plans in three weeks for constructing three parking facilities in Nizamuddin.

During the inspection, SDMC Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel suggested potential sites for multi-level parking facilities.

In order to manage traffic during the annual Urs, when pilgrims come to visit the dargah, the L-G said the departments concerned should coordinate to create shelters, toilets and temporary kitchens.

Mr. Goel also asked for permission to set up a parking lot for 100 buses, during the Urs, on an under-utilised lot on the Sunehri Nallah.

The L-G said all these facilities should be in place by December 31, before the Urs in January 2018. He added that the plans should be completed by October 8.
