Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of Bharatiya Janata Party, seems to be promising the moon to students in the current DUSU elections. The party in its manifesto, released on Tuesday, has promised to open new colleges in the university if it comes to power.
Effective implementation of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) also found place as one of the top priorities of the party. CYSS and ABVP are the only two student wings that have supported CBCS in the university.
The ABVP manifesto read: “It has been over 20 years since a new college was opened in Delhi University. Students are forced to study in private colleges and universities. We will struggle with the administration to open new colleges under university of Delhi. Also, new evening colleges should be opened in the existing buildings immediately.”
Other points that found mention in the manifesto included expenditure of 6 per cent of GDP on education and making campus a safer place for students.
“ABVP will work towards attainment of this goal and will work on various issues relating to the security of students especially girl students throughout the year,” the manifesto read.
It also mentioned the demand of a road as “Nirbhaya Marg” on the University Campus and round the clock helpline numbers for women’s safety.
The issue of hostels that ABVP has been constantly raising also found a mention in the manifesto.
“Hostel and lodging is a major issue for outstation students studying in DU. ABVP will struggle for implementation of Room Rent Control Act, and demand for new hostels for undergraduate and post-graduate students,” the manifesto added.
Effective working of Northeast cells in all the colleges and frequent meetings of nodal officers to address the problems faced by Northeast students were also one of the few points in manifesto.
In addition to all this, the party has also asked for campus specific demands like a closed and compact campus and special bus service for North campus, new sports complex in South campus, acceleration of work on allotted land for East campus, increase in police security near east Delhi colleges and establishment of a campus in west Delhi. —Staff Reporter
