Nursery admissions for EWS to begin tomorrow, says DoE

February 14 last date for online application submission

Nursery admission for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Disadvantage Group (DG) category and Children With Disabilities (CWD) category in private schools will begin from Tuesday, the Directorate of Education (DoE) said via a circular.

It added that the last date for submitting online application forms is Monday.

The admission will be done through a computerised lottery system, informed the DoE, against 25% seats reserved under the provisions of Right to Education Act, 2009, and no school will be allowed to admit any child offline in entry-level classes. It added that 3% seats within the 25% reserved seats under EWS/DG will be reserved for CWD.

The circular said that private schools recognised/ provisionally recognised up to primary level (Class V) by East body and North body have also been included in the computerised online admission system for EWS/DG category admissions at entry level.

Eligibility criteria

The DoE said any person residing in Delhi, having the residence proof of Delhi and requisite income certificate (less than ₹1 lakh annually) issued by the Revenue Department of the GNCT of Delhi, and BPL/ AAY (ration card/food security card holder) are eligible for applying in these private schools for admission of their wards under the EWS category

“The condition of minimum residency period of three years in Delhi for admission under EWS and DG [including children with disabilities] category has been waived. Applicants under CWD must have disability certificates issued by a government hospital,” the DoE said.

The eligible age limit for admission in entry-level classes as on March 31, 2019, is 3-5 years for pre-school/nursery; 4-6 years for pre-primary/KG and 5-7 years Class I. The date of the first computerised draw of lots for CWD category applicants is February 21 and February 27 for EWS/DG category applicants.
