A couple died and their three children sustained injuries after the roof of their house collapsed at Hari Vihar near the Kakrola dairy area in Dwarka, Delhi, early on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Sunil (40) and his wife Rachna (40). They were declared brought dead by doctors at the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya hospital.

The injured children, Vaibhav, Gulshan and Gungun, are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Police said the elder son, Vaibhav, told them that the house was owned by his father. The T-iron used to hold the weight of the roof had become weak after water leakage due to consecutive rains. There was a layer of bricks on the roof to stop the water from leaking. The weak iron rods were unable to take the load and hence, the roof collapsed.

A PCR (police control room) call was received at 3.30 am under the Dwarka North police station about the incident.
