The Government Railway Police arrested two men for allegedly stealing laptops and mobiles phones of passengers on the Vande Bharat and Shatabdi Express trains, said officials on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railway) D.K. Gupta said Ezaz Ahmad Malik from Kashmir’s Pulwama and Saddam Hussain from central Delhi’s Jama Masjid, have been arrested.

“We have recovered three laptops and two mobile phones from their possession. The articles were stolen from the New Delhi Railway Station. Total seven cases of mobile phone and laptop thefts have been worked out,” said Mr. Gupta.

He said they had got a complaint regarding a passenger’s laptop being stolen from Vande Bharat train on May 20. “We obtained CCTV footage from the coach where the theft was reported. Meanwhile, we got a similar complaint from another passenger travelling in Shatabdi Express,” said Mr. Gupta.

The CCTV footage was thoroughly examined and a person was spotted carrying the laptop bag of the complainant. It was circulated among informer groups after which Ezaz Ahmad was nabbed.

During interrogation, Ezaz revealed that after stealing the laptop, he sold it to Sadam, the police added.
