In a world that continues to struggle for peace, over 6,000 dancers in 48 countries moved to the tunes of Brazilian singer Paulo Mac’s Intenções to celebrate International Day of Peace on Sunday.
In the Capital , a flash mob comprising dancers performed the Brazilian zouk in Saket. Zouk, a dance form that originated in Rio, is considered the dance of love, that is being performed across the world to unite people.
The couples attracted a lot of attention with the sensuous dance form, that is characterised by its basic sideways movements in which the hips move first, followed by the rest of the body.

Shoppers at the mall pulled out their camera phones and started recording the performance, that also included a short choreographed performance to a couple of popular Hindi tunes that saw the crowd moving along.
Apart from Delhi, dancers in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pondicherry joined the list of 160 cities from across the world that attempted to unite the world with one cause one song, one dance on one day.
Speaking after the performance, zouk instructor and member of the International Zouk Flash Mob Shalini Sen said: “Brazilian zouk is all about freedom and connection. Through the event, we connect not only in person but also in spirit as thousands dance the same choreography on the same day.”

Explain the background of the event, the organisers said a special contest held in May was won by a couple from Poland. The couple’s choreography was selected to be replicated for the event across the world.
While most people who stopped to witness the performance were clueless about the connection that the performance had to spreading peace, the event managed to introduce Delhiites to a new dance form.
Onita Sen, who was seeing the dance form for the first time, fell in love with it and said she was planning to take a break from her Salsa lessons to learn zouk.
