A 28-year-old delivery man is battling for his life at a city hospital after he was stabbed over 20 times by a woman for delaying the delivery of the mobile phone she purchased from an online shopping merchant. The incident took place in Nihal Vihar area of Outer district.

On Wednesday, the police arrested the woman, identified as Kamal Deep, 30, and her brother Jitender Singh, 32, for attacking and robbing the delivery man. Kamal Deep is an advocate and Jitender is a school van driver. They have been booked for IPC sections of attempt to murder and voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery at Nihal Vihar police station, the police said.

The police said that on March 21 they received a PCR call at 9 p.m. about a man lying injured along a drain in Chander Vihar area. A team rushed to the spot and took the injured man to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for treatment.

“The injured has been identified as Keshav, a resident of Ambica Enclave in Nihal Vihar. He recorded his statement on March 24 and based on his statement, the accused were arrested. A CCTV footage also helped us crack the case,” said a senior police officer.

In his statement to police, the victim stated that he works as a delivery man with Flipkart. On March 21, he had come to deliver a mobile phone worth ₹11,000 in Vikas Vihar area of Nihal Vihar as ordered by the client (the accused woman).

The woman was calling him repeatedly on his mobile phone and complaining about delay. He got delayed as he was unable to locate the house as he was new to the area. But the woman was screaming at him over phone, the victim told police.

When he reached her flat, she got into an argument with him and the argument scaled up. She got a kitchen knife and attacked him. Hearing a commotion, when her elder brother tried to intervene, she even threated him either to get out of it or help her in ‘teaching a lesson’ to the delivery man. They then attacked him with a kitchen knife all over the body. His wrists were slit multiple times. They even tried to kill him by strangling him with a shoe lace.

“After finding him motionless, they robbed ₹40,000 cash he had collected by delivering items. They dumped him near a drain during late night in a van. The victim has been stabbed all over the body. During the scuffle, he fell down and the accused woman sat on his abdomen and attacked him with a knife,” said a police official.

During interrogation, the accused siblings tried to mislead the investigation but a CCTV installed in the opposite building captured the entry of the delivery man and when his body was taken out by the siblings.

“Neighbours said that the woman is extremely short tempered and she often gets into fights with neighbours over minor issues. All the allegations made by the siblings to mislead the investigation were found false. Later, her brother confessed their involvement in the crime,” added a police official.

Police said that ₹40,000 stolen cash, a van used in the offence, a blood stained towel, knife and shoe laces used to strangulate him were recovered from their house in the Flipkart bag of the victim.
