A 10-year-old girl was raped and murdered by her maternal uncle at Mominpet in neighbouring Ranga Reddy district, nearly 80 km from here, the police said on Monday.
The accused Raju, blacksmith, is younger brother of the victim’s mother, Savitramma. Twenty-year-old Raju married Savitramma’s elder daughter. Both the families live in huts on the outskirts of Mominpet. On Sunday night, the accused came to the hut of Savitramma, whose husband went out on some work, in an inebriated condition. “He urged her to bring some liquor for him. Since he was brother and son-in-law, the woman obliged,” the Mominpet Sub-Inspector K.P. Rajaiah said. The blacksmith slept in the hut. Late in the night, he violated the girl and strangled her to death before fleeing the hut.
In the morning, the woman found her daughter lying dead with injuries on throat and other parts of the body. Based on her complaint, police registered a case of rape and murder. The blacksmith was taken into custody and is being interrogated.
