About 30 blackbucks from the Nehru Zoological Park are being shifted to the Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park at Vanasthalipuram on the city outskirts. These antelopes are to be released in a newly created facility at the national park on Friday.
More than 500 acres have been fenced to create the new facility at the national park for the 10 male and 20 female blackbucks being shifted from the zoo.
Spread over 3,500 acres, Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park is home for different species, including cheetal, peacocks, wild boar and birds. “The national park has natural forest area and lot of vegetation on offer. At the zoo, the carrying capacity for blackbucks has crossed, so they are being shifted out from here,” said zoo Curator A. Sankaran.
The zoo still will be left with over 50 blackbucks.
