Flyover at Mindspace junction thrown open

The four-lane bi-directional flyover at the Raheja Mindspace Junction in Madhapur has been thrown open for traffic on Friday, as part of the fifth structure of the prestigious Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) initiated by the Telangana State government towards providing signal-free traffic solution for the city. This is the second flyover of SRDP to be completed after the one at Kamineni Junction launched in July this year.

Before schedule

Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi inaugurated the flyover and lauded the officials for completing it before deadline, without cost overrun. The 830-metre long and 16.6-metre wide flyover alone has cost ₹48.06 crore in the ₹108.59 crore work at the Mindspace Junction, which also include six-lane bidirectional underpass, service roads, utility duct and drain, among others. The underpass has already been completed in April this year and thrown open for public.

The flyover is designed to provide conflict-free traffic movement from Inorbit mall towards Radison Hotel, and as part of the project, will ease traffic congestion at the busy junction, said GHMC through its release.

As of now, over 14,000 vehicles travel on this route, and the number is expected to rise up to 31,500 by 2035. Explaining about SRDP, chief engineer (Projects), GHMC, R. Sreedhar said the project envisions construction of 111 km of skyways, 366 km of major corridors, 166 km of major roads, and 2,500 km of minor roads in five phases.

Tender completed

The first, second and third phases of the project are under way at a cost of ₹2,500 crore, for which tendering process has been completed and the works awarded.

Proposals worth ₹3,000 crore are at the formulation stage, Mr. Sreedhar informed. The underpasses at Ayyappa Society and Mindspace at Madhapur and Chintalkunta at L.B.Nagar besides the flyover at Kamineni Junction in L.B.Nagar have already been inaugurated.

Pending projects

Mr. Sreedhar has further said construction of the latest flyover has been completed in 16 months, about six months ahead of its April deadline.

Two more flyovers respectively at JNTU and L.B.Nagar will be completed in January next year, while the one at Biodiversity junction will be completed a little later in April, owing to the land acquisition problems it has run into.

The cable-stayed bridge at Durgam Cheruvu is scheduled for April completion.
