Govt. urged to publicise household survey proforma

Updated - November 16, 2021 05:44 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Praja Alochana Vedika, a civil society organisations’ forum, has suggested the government of Telangana to widely publicise the proforma of the intensive household survey planned for August 19 so that people are ready with the information to be provided to the enumerators.

President of the forum U. Gopala Rao, Prof. I. Tirumali of Delhi University and Election Watch Forum convenor V.V. Rao told reporters here on Thursday that the survey was a unique effort being undertaken by the State government to prepare an information database on the people so that it could properly prepare plans for the welfare and development schemes.

Welcoming the government’s decision to conduct the household survey, they tried to allay apprehensions among a section of people that it was meant to demarcate people of Telangana and Seemandhra regions. “There are no columns/questions in the proforma to elicit such information,” they stated. They requested the government not to leave any scope for laxity in the exercise.

Making some suggestions on the survey, they urged the government to cross-check the authenticity of the information collected by conducting gram/ward sabhas and displaying the information collected so that any objections/changes were pointed out by the people. However, they appealed to the government not to allow access to the information to MNCs and political parties as had happened with some other surveys in the past.

Prof. Tirumali suggested the government to give access to the information to intellectuals as they would analyse and interpret in an independent manner. The government could also take the help of experts to analyse the information collected, he noted. He thanked the government for accepting their suggestion to collect the details of gypsies (‘sanchara jatulu’) as part of the household survey. He was sure that the survey would help collect comprehensive information that the national sample survey, Prof. Tirumali said after going through the proforma.
