Wrought iron/steel railing with a period look, classic patterns of tiles and stone flooring, restoration of age old structures, cobblestones, old style street furniture and vintage looking electrical fittings interspersed with sculptures, art work and classical signage, among others, will form part of proposed ‘Heritage Precinct’ being developed by the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR).
It will be for about five kilometeres between the Police Control Room/Archaeology Museum and Rangamahal junction/Chaderghat, covering five metro stations of Assembly, Nampally, Gandhi Bhavan, Osmania Medical College and MGBS in Corridor-I — Miyapur to L.B. Nagar, said HMR Managing Director N.V.S.Reddy on Wednesday.
The project taken up on the instructions of Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T.Rama Rao, will also see revival of Jambagh Market and its integration with other restoration works proposed near Sultan Bazar and OMC stations.
The MD inspected the area along with his senior staff and said sky walks will connect MGBS metro station with bus depot down and Chaderghat for seamless connectivity. The double decker style pillar structure when Corridor II (JBS-MGBS/Falaknuma) passes over Corridor 1 (Miyapur-L.B.Nagar) between OMC and Rangamahal junction, is to be showcased as a spot for ‘convergence of historical elegance and engineering excellence’.
Old city metro pillars and walls will be used to depict paintings and sculptures reflecting the local history and culture. Clock tower and traffic rotary at the control room will be remodelled with signal posts relocated for smoother flow of vehicles.
Mr. Reddy said Nampally Metro station will be connected with the railway station 200 mts away with a covered walkway and railing for passengers to trolley their luggage. Two lane carriageway on each side with cobblestones and vehicle bays, will be created. Nampally and Gandhi Bhavan stations will be integrated with MJ Market, he added.
