In his previous visit to his newly-wed daughter’s home, he carried a parcel of biryani. However, less than 24 hours later on Wednesday, Manohara Chary attacked her with a sickle leaving her to battle for life in hospital.
Chary also attacked Madhavi’s husband B. Sandeep (21) who is recuperating. When he visited his daughter’s place on Tuesday afternoon, a television channel was airing news related to Pranay’s murder in Miryalaguda. While watching the news that was being telecast, Chary told Madhavi that he is not as cruel as Maruthi Rao, who hatched a conspiracy to kill his son-in-law in Miryalguda last week.
However, Sandeep’s mother refused to accept the parcel of biryani stating that her son would get it for them and soon Chary left the place. Sandeep, a second year degree student was working at a hotel in the area as part-time employee.
Recalling Chary’s visit to their place, Sandeep’s mother B Ramadevi told The Hindu that the former was in an inebriated state and for the past few days, he was coming to their house after consuming alcohol. “The other day, I warned him not to visit our place in an inebriated condition as no male person was at house,” she said.
He told Madhavi that he would not repeat the Miryalaguda incident, but did contrary to what he has promised his daughter, said an inconsolable Ramadevi, who was waiting outside a corporate hospital in Somajiguda, where her daughter-in-law is battling for life.
Madhavi, hailing from a BC community, married Sandeep, a Dalit person at a temple in Alwal here on September 12 and her family members opposed their marriage. It is understood that Chary was upset as Madhavi was not heeding to his advice. Sandeep’s family told her that she was free to choose whether to stay with Sandeep or go back, as the couple were too young.
“She refused to leave the place saying that she would stay with us,” Ramadevi said, alleging that Chary was ‘inspired’ by Pranay’s murder.
Further, Ramadevi stated that Chary addressed her as ‘mummy’ as he was drunk.
“He frequently visited our place after the couple got married last week, to see his daughter, though he did not accept their marriage, even after both the families were counselled by the SR Nagar police on the day of their wedding,” she added.
Chary was arrested by the SR Nagar police on Wednesday evening, confirmed Anjani Kumar, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police.
