The trials of Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) system, also called as Automatic Train Protection (ATP) System, indigenously designed by Indian Railways, was carried out on Saturday.
These were done between Lingampalli-Vikarabad-Tandur-Koukuntla Railway Stations on the Begumpet-Wadi section of the South Central Railway under the watchful eyes of senior officials.
The TCAS, developed indigenously by Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO), Lucknow, is quite economical when compared to technology developed abroad and the current trails were categorised into three segments.

It was maiden trials of the new installation of TCAS between Lingampalli and Hafizpet as well as between Godamgura and Tandur. Between Tandur and Koukuntla, however, the trials were meant to further ensure inter operability and also suitability on the auto signaling section.
Three firms - Medha, Kernex and HBL are involved in the project and further trials are being planned in the coming months and these will cover Lingampalli – Vikarabad – Wadi and Vikarabad – Bidar sections to a total length of 250 kms.
About 40 nominated locomotives (20 electrical and 20 diesel locomotives) will be put to use for these full fledged trials.
