Rainfall expected to dip in Telangana

Published - July 21, 2018 10:23 pm IST - HYDERABAD

After a day of heavy rains in several parts of Telangana, rainfall is expected to dip a notch over the next few days, the weathermen informed.

A depression was active in the north-west of the Bay of Bengal, which moved inland and weakened into a low-pressure system. India Meteorological Department officials said this weather system was headed north-west into the country, reducing the potential of rainfall in the State.

“Though monsoon winds are active, we can only expect light to moderate rainfall scattered across the State over the next few days, mainly in northern Telangana,” said Y.K. Reddy, Director-in-Charge for IMD in Hyderabad.

Due to the system’s north-west venture, the IMD revised its heavy rainfall alert, originally issued until July 23. On Saturday, the maximum rainfall in Telangana, 23.5 mm, was recorded at Shantapur of Mancherial. Only two locations received moderate rainfall, which is a recording of more than 15.6 mm rain.

As on July 18, Telangana recorded 335.7 mm, which is 28% above the normal of 262.7 mm.
