Substation for Metro trial to be ready by Feb-end

The APTransco is all but ready to commission its first substation which will supply power to the Hyderabad Metro Rail on its trial run scheduled for June this year.

The trial run on the elevated track between Nagole and Mettuguda will draw power from the 220kv/132kv/33kv conventional substation to be built and managed by Transco in Uppal. All the works pertaining to the substation are almost complete and it will be charged by this month end, said Transco officials.

However, input cable lines for the substation are yet to be laid from the 400/220kv Ghanapur substation, and this may take considerable time due to right-of-way issues near the banks of River Musi.

From Ghanapur, a multi-circuit cable line will be laid, of which two circuits will go to the substation at Uppal. Due to the delay in completion of this line, input supply will be drawn for the time being from another 132kv line passing by, officials said.

While the substation will also cater to consumers other than HMR, two 132kv feeders from here will be totally dedicated to ensure uninterrupted power supply for the Metro Rail project.

The power requirement for Metro Rail at its full operational level is estimated to be about 70 MVA, though it is subject to revision depending on various other factors. To begin with, the Uppal substation will provide over 4 MVA for the trial run.

For terminals

Power will also be drawn from 220kv Miyapur, 220kv Imliban and 220kv Erragadda substations under construction, for the Metro Station Terminals set to come up at Miyapur, Imliban and Yousufguda respectively.
