The DMK cadres, supporters of Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and J. Deepa, niece of the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa revelled in joy in various parts of Thoothukudi district in the wake of the Supreme Court’s verdict in the disproportionate assets case.

Instantly after the news broke that AIADMK general secretary V.K. Sasikala, along with Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran, were convicted in the case, they started celebrating by bursting crackers and distributing sweets to the public.

Some DMK lawyers burst crackers in front of the District Court in Thoothukudi town. At Peikulam, the DMK cadres celebrated the verdict. At Kovilpatti, supporters of Mr. Panneerselvam burst crackers on Maniyachi Road and offered sweets to people, who crossed the venue.

Similarly, the supporters of Mr. Panneerselvam along with loyalists of Ms. J. Deepa joined the celebrations at other localities including Vilathikulam, Puthiyamputhur and Udangudi, sources said. Police sources said the situation was normal across the district since the verdict was out.

With adequate deployment of police personnel, patrolling was on. Over the last two days, 110 accused had been arrested after filing 61 cases, sources said.
