A car rally with a purpose

The third edition of the “In-sight” car rally, organised by Madurai Ladies Circle (No. 8), in association with Indian Association for the Blind and Indian Oil Corporation, was held in the city on Sunday.

As many as 32 cars which participated in the rally, flagged off by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) A.G. Babu, criss-crossed over 30 kilometres through different locations of the city. The uniqueness behind the rally was that the navigators were visually-challenged persons.

Explaining the objective of the rally, the organisers said the funds raised from the event would be earmarked for providing educational assistance to under privileged children studying in government schools.

Titled “educate to enlighten” the Ladies Circle had provided around Rs. 3 crore-assistance to school going children by raising funds from organising such events across different cities in the country.

Sharing their experience, the three toppers of the rally commended the role played by the visually challenged persons as navigators at the prize distribution ceremony.

The Indian Oil Corporation Senior Divisional (retail sales) Manager Jayakumar, Hotel Fortune Pandian Director Santhanam, MLC (No.8) chairperson Visalakshi addressed the gathering.
