Comedian Vasu, popularly known as ‘Alwa’ Vasu, died in his residence at Rukmani Palayam Munichalai here late on Thursday night.

Starting his career in the film industry as an assistant director to Manivannan, ‘Alwa’ Vasu (54) starred in many Tamil films as a comedian. His performance in Amaithipadai was one among the notable films. He had acted with famous comedians, including Vadivelu, in as many as 900 films.

According to his family members, Vasu was unwell for some months and suffered from renal-related ailments. After treatment in Chennai, he was brought here where he frequently underwent intensive treatments at a private hospital.

He breathed his last at 11.30 p.m. on Thursday. On hearing the news, many personalities from the industry paid homage at his residence. The comedian leaves behind his wife and a daughter.

The cremation was conducted at the Thathaneri electric crematorium.
