Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa gave away laptops to 2,529 students studying in Corporation schools here on Tuesday.
According to a press release, the Mayor said that Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was keen on ensuring students developed knowledge about things happening around the world at their lap.
Thus, to keep her promise, the she had ordered issuance of free laptops to students in Tamil Nadu.

Hence, it was for the students to utilise the opportunity and come up in their academic pursuit, he added.
The value of the laptops presented was Rs.4.04 crore, the release added.
