Vice-Chancellor of Tamil University in Thanjavur M. Thirumalai asked the students of Thiagarajar College here to read Thirukkural to improve their personality and Bharathiyar poems to speak in style.
Delivering the 31st Graduation Day address on Sunday, he said, “Personality development is essential for success. Knowledge alone cannot help a person achieve his goal. One need to have positive thoughts, confidence, enrich general knowledge, be honest, be a master of his field, be healthy and maintain good habits to taste success in life,” Dr.Thirumalai said.
“Parents should sow the seeds of personality development in their children when they are young. They should strengthen their children’s inner and outer personality during their childhood itself,” he added.
According to Dr.Thirumalai, the poems of Bharathiyar are rich in vocabulary that reading them aloud every day would help the students improve their pronunciation in a unique way and enable them to speak in style.
College president Karumuttu T. Kannan advised the students to aspire for something higher all the time to be successful in life.
“The learning process does not end in college. As new research findings are coming up every day, graduates are required to keep learning all through their life,” he said.
Around 900 graduates from various undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including M. Phil scholars, received their degrees.
A. Thamaraichelvan pronounced the formal conferment of degrees on the graduates.
