The first tribal employment exchange and career development centre in the country has started functioning at Palode.

Minister for Labour T.P. Ramakrishnan inaugurated the centre here on Tuesday. The Minister said the exchange would help educated youth among the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes make significant achievements in the higher education sector. Attempts would be made to open more such exchanges in other parts of the country.

The government aimed at equipping the youth to utilise employment opportunities, the Minister said. A number of schemes were being implemented to create a generation of youth who were equipped to meet the present requirements and to increase employment opportunities, he said.

Land from panchayat

Till the centre comes up on 10 cents of land given for free by the Peringamala grama panchayat and using funds sanctioned under the employability centre scheme this financial year, it will function from a rented premises.

Once construction is complete, the exchange will become the first completely digital employment office in the State. D.K. Murali, MLA, presided over the function.
