Walkers at the NTR Municipal Stadium had a pleasant surprise on Thursday morning when the top district officials walked the talk urging them to cast their vote fearlessly and without yielding to the money or muscle power.
Poll percentageLed by Joint Collector Vivek Yadav, the officials joined the residents in their morning walk session at the stadium seeking the cooperation of the voters in ensuring free and fair elections. The walkathon was undertaken as a part of the Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), an initiative of the Election Commission of India to increase the polling percentage and educate the people on ethical voting.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yadav said the district administration led by Collector S. Suresh Kumar was aiming at reaching out to people to increase the poll percentage in the coming elections. Guntur West and East Assembly segments recorded the lowest polling percentage in the district and the district administration has taken up a renewed effort to step up voter’s enrolment ahead of the polls. The polling percentage in the Guntur West and East segments was just over 65 per cent.
Signature campaignA signature campaign has also been launched recently, posters have been put up and a balloon was flung from the Guntur Municipal Corporation premises to bring awareness among the voters. A quiz competition was also held recently as part of the SVEEP activity.
