Updated - November 28, 2021 09:21 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The Academic Senate of Andhra University at its meeting here on Monday okayed the proposal to implement choice-based credit system, smart and good campus programme.

The UGC recommended the universities to implement these steps which would have common syllabi and grades and help a student migrate from one university to another if needed, Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju said while briefing reporters after the meeting along with Rector E.A. Narayana and Registrar V. Uma Maheswara Rao.

It also provides gap year entrepreneurship concept in which a student could resume his or her study after a gap.

In the smart campus and good campus programme, students could do a project or work on a system at an incubation centre.

The successful candidates would get 5 per cent grace marks and 20 per cent waiver in attendance.

The Senate approved introduction of a diploma course in Japanese, B.Ed. and M.Ed. courses on extended time as per the new conditions of NCT, considering the Gandhian Studies Centre as a centre to offer M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes, and took other decisions on existing courses.

The university after a long time has a deficit-free budget. A sum of Rs. 332.03 crore was shown as receipts and the same amount as expected expenditure for 2015-16.

Prof. Raju said all arrears to the teaching and non-teaching staff and retired persons could be cleared as Rs. 130 crore was sanctioned by the government last year.

With UGC releasing Rs. 2.5 crore, the Rajiv Gandhi fellowship arrears were cleared.

Modern gym

A modern gym and a 50-bed sports hostel would be built with Rs. 1.75 crore granted by the UGC. New hostels, quarters to replace the old structures, building for health centre, automation of CAO, etc. were planned.
