Amaravati Vaibhavam a 15-minute narrative on Amaravati from the ancient times to the future capital of the State is set to be staged as part of Kuchipudi Jayate programme in London on Saturday.
The ballet uses the traditional idiom and grammar of Kuchipudi to present a modern narrative, Kuchipudi danseuse and research scholar Koka Vijayalakshmi explained during a chat with The Hindu from Cardiff in the United Kingdom.
Ms. Vijayalakshmi is part of a group of 40 Kuchipudi and folk artistes headed by Killi Satya Prasad of United Kingdom Telugu Association (UKTA) that is on a month-long tour of Europe. The tour is sponsored by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, UKTA, A.P. Department of Language and Culture and Government of Telangana.
The group has been staging Yakshaganam, Jayathe Bathukamma and Jayathe Kuchipudi programmes across Europe and the concluding programme on July 9 would be at Troxy in London where Tollywood actor Pawan Kalyan would be the chief guest. As part of the Jayathe Kuchipudi programme Ms. Vijayalakshmi has presented the 15-minute ballet ‘Amaravati Vaibhavam’ along with nine other artistes. She had earlier presented a number of Kuchipudi ballets on modern themes including a recent one on Viplavakavi Sri Sri performed here on May Day.

“I am very happy to be able to introduce Gautamiputra Satkarni to the Telugu community in the UK and narrate the history of Amaravati Stupa which was excavated during the British rule in India,” she said about the forthcoming performance.
The group includes well known folk artiste from Telangana Vaddepalli Srinivas, Vedantam Venkata Naga Chalapathi from Kuchipudi Natyaramam in Kuchipudi and Kuchipudi and folk artistes Vanaja Uday, Jwala Srikala, Maddali Usha Gayathri from Telangana and A.P.
