The government should take care of the aided colleges as the latter do a yeoman service in providing quality education at minimal cost, former Chief Secretary Ajeya Kallam said here Monday.

Speaking at the 45th foundation day of Dr. Lankapalli Bullayya College, Mr. Kallam suggested that the government should identify and support such institutions so that those could hone the talent of students by providing quality education.

Speaking on the occasion, Eastern Naval Command Chief of Staff Vice Admiral M.S. Pawar said that affordable education was the need of the hour and the aided colleges could help immensely in this regard.

Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G. Nagewara Rao rated Dr. Lankapalli Bullayya College as one of the best colleges affiliated to the varsity. He also urged the college management to organise alumni meets. Former Chief Secretary K. Jaya Bharath Reddy, who is also the founder president of Society of Collegiate Education that runs the college, appreciated the efforts put in by the management in the last 45 years to improve the alma mater and urged the management to aim at achieving the ‘deemed to be university’ status.

President of the advisory body and former Chairman of APSCHE, K.C. Reddy focussed on how difficult it was to run a college on a non-profit basis, especially when there was a cut-throat competitions from the corporate and private colleges.
