With the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination results and the II pre-university (PU) course results out on May 6, students are queuing up in colleges for PU and degree application forms.

PU colleges in the city saw long queues with eager students waiting to get hold of application forms. “I went to MES College, Malleswaram, right after the announcement of results and there was a long queue. I had to wait for almost three hours to get a form,” said Anita G., an applicant.

Sangita S., a student of Anupama English High School, Andrahalli, who went to get the application forms on Friday, seemed relaxed. “I’m sure I will get through. I have applied to Vidya Mandir PU College, Malleswaram, and with 93 per cent, I am confident of getting through,” she said.

Colleges are already beginning to witness trends in demand for courses. A representative from St. Joseph’s PU College, said: “Science is the most popular course this year, with commerce coming next. There are very few applicants for arts.”

While PU colleges in the city saw a frenzied rush, degree colleges received a lukewarm response. At Mount Carmel College and St. Joseph’s College of Arts and Science, hardly any students were seen buying the application forms as students aspiring for professional and law courses were awaiting either the conduct of entrance exams or their results.

“I’m going to write the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) on May 12, so I’m waiting for that. But I have applied for School of Law - Christ University online and M.S. Ramaiah College of Law,” said Shikha Nadig, an arts student from Christ Junior College.

“I tried applying for BBM in Christ University, but there are no more application forms available,” a disappointed Tvisha Ijner said. “However, I am going to write the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) and Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) and am awaiting the Common Entrance Test (CET) results; so I’ll wait for them before applying to other colleges.” “I am applying for the journalism course at Mount Carmel College and Christ University. I’ve heard a lot about these colleges from my friends so I’m looking forward to studying here,” says Misbah Abdul, a student from Qatar.

The commerce stream appeared to be popular. “Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) and Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) are in demand this year. So far (till Friday), there have been 292 applicants for B.Com. and 646 applicants for BBM. However, the applicants for Bachelor in Science are very few this year,” said Dorothy Chandrashekar, an administrative official from Mount Carmel College.
