A 75-year-old landlord and a 30-year-old construction supervisor were electrocuted on Thursday around 3.30 p.m. at Sapthagiri Layout in Marathahalli police station limits.

The incident took place after an iron rod they were working with came in touch with a high tension wire. The deceased have been identified as Veerappa and Mohan Samantha. Another construction labourer, Baban, sustained burns and has been admitted to a nearby hospital. Samantha and Baban are from Bengal while Veerappa is a resident of Sapthagiri Layout.

"Veerappa owns a four-storey building in Sapthagiri Layout. In one of the houses on the first floor, there was a block in the sanitary lines. Veerappa had sought the help of Samantha, who was supervising the construction in a neighbouring plot, to clear the blockage. The trio had inserted an iron rod inside the sanitary line. They were on the rear side of the building. When the rod emerged on the other side, it came in contact with a high tension wire. Samantha was killed on the spot while Baban was thrown away.

Veerappa, who was standing by the side, tried to help Samantha by putting a bed spread. When he stood on the watery surface, he too was electrocuted," said an officer who is part of the investigation.

The Marathahalli police have registered a case of unnatural death and have shifted the bodies to the Vydehi hospital in Whitefield.
