Ravindranath seeks CBI probe in two cases

A case was filed against the ADGP, and he filed another against Auradkar

Additional Director-General of Police P. Ravindranath has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into two cases — one in which he is accused of taking photographs of a woman at a coffee shop, and two, the atrocity case he has lodged against City Police Commissioner Raghavendra H. Auradkar and two other police officials.

He made the demand after he met Bipin Gopalakrishna, Director-General of Police (DGP), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and other officials from the CID, who are probing the two cases.

Dr. Ravindranath, who on Saturday visited Carlton House, the headquarters of the CID, requested the investigating officials to arrest him. However, they declined. Later, speaking to

The Hindu , Mr. Gopalakrishna said it was the prerogative of the investigating officer to decide whether to arrest Dr. Ravindranath or not.

Dr. Ravindranath, however, told presspersons that more than his arrest, what he wanted was that his version of events be recorded in writing and be made part of the investigation. He said both the city police and the CID were trying to avoid this. He said he had lost hope in the CID probe and demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI.

Meanwhile, CID sleuths on Saturday visited the High Grounds Police Station and questioned officials about the events on Monday, when Dr. Ravindranath was taken to the police station after being accused of taking photographs of the woman.

Sub-inspector M.S. Ravi, who hauled up the senior official from the coffee shop, was also questioned. CID officials refused to comment on the investigation.
