18 of 27 injured discharged

Updated - November 16, 2021 07:07 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Eighteen of the 27 persons who sustained injuries in the building collapse at Moulivakkam have been discharged after treatment.

Except for one woman, who was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (GH), the other injured persons had undergone treatment at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre (SRMC), Porur.

So far, 17 of the patients have been discharged from SRMC — nine on Saturday alone. A majority of them are from Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) and Tamil Nadu (T.N.), said hospital officials.

Suseela, who was admitted to GH, was also discharged on Saturday. She has been taken to her native place in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, in the ‘108’ ambulance.

Officials said the ambulances are transporting patients outside the State only in exceptional cases. Vizianagaram is nearly 900 km away from Chennai, said an official.

There are now nine patients — five from T.N., and two each from Odisha and A.P. — undergoing treatment at SRMC.

At Government Royapettah Hospital, which received a total of 54 bodies, only one body remains to be identified. Post-mortem has been conducted on the rest, and the bodies have been handed over to relatives.

Hospital officials said they did not conduct DNA tests on any of the deceased. “DNA test is required only if there is doubt about identity of a person. We did not face such issues,” said an official.
