A reporter-cum-anchor of a well-known Tamil news channel allegedly committed suicide by hanging in his house near Thiruverkadu in the early hours on Monday.

Thiruverkadu police identified the deceased as K. Nedunchezhiyan (28), a business reporter and presenter with the Puthiya Thalaimurai channel. The incident took place around 3.30 a.m. at his residence in Velappan Nagar, Madharvedu.

On Sunday night, Nedunchezhiyan had a heated argument with his wife Arthi, a dentist, over a family issue. The couple then went to sleep in the drawing room.

Later in the night, Arthi woke up to find him missing from the room. She went into the bedroom and found him hanging from the ceiling by a bed sheet.

Arthi managed to cut him lose and realised he was alive. She called an ambulance and Nedunchezhiyan was rushed to hospital but he died on the way, police said. The scribe’s body had visible head injuries which he is believed to have sustained after he fell on the floor while being removed from the noose.

Thiruverkadu police registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
