Education is a continuous process: Venkaiah Naidu

Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidusaid India is poised to become the third largest economy in the world in the coming years as the economy has been growing at 7.3% even, while in the developed countries it is slowing down. Even in China, the economic growth has come down to 6%.

Mr. Naidu was participating in the convocation function of Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS), located on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday.

Congratulating the students, the Vice-President said they should keep in mind that education was a continuous process. Quoting a verse from the Thirukkural, he said that education does not end once a student successfully completes his graduation and lands a job.

Mr. Naidu, complimenting the growth of VISTAS within a short span of time and the infrastructure it has managed to create in the field of education, added that the institute has more opportunity to improve research and development.

India is a young nation where 65% of the population is below 35 years with more than one crore youth coming out of colleges to enter the job market. However, he pointed out that despite the expansion in the number of education institutions, employability of these graduates remains a concern and this needs to be pondered over by the educators.

Honorary degrees were presented to athlete P.T. Usha, DRDO Chairman G. Satheesh Reddy, and businessman S. Xavier Britto.

Platinum jubilee celebrations

The Vice-President also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new building at the school campus in T. Nagar during the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Kesari Higher Secondary Schools.

S.B.P. Pattabhi Rama Rao, Joint Secretary of the Kesari Education Society, said that the society was created from the belief that quality education in Telugu should be made accessible to all.

“It is our desire and intent to take our founder Dr. K.N. Kesari’s vision forward. We aim to build sustainable institutions that offer quality education to everybody,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion Governor Banwarilal Purohit congratulated the students and teachers on their academic achievements. “Good education is dependent on good teachers and I am glad to see the students being guided well. I hope that the students will work towards ensuring that this reputed institution soars to greater heights,” he said.

Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi, Pontiff of the Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt, was present on the occasion.
