A 42-year-old passenger onboard a suburban train was murdered by his cousin at Athipattu Pudhu Nagar railway station on November 24.

A senior officer of the Government Railway Police (GRP) said S. Ravinder and V. Murali were cousins staying in the same house. While Ravinder was staying in the ground floor, Murali was living on the first floor. On Thursday, Murali fought with Ravinder against the installation of a temporary shelter. Angered by this Ravinder, armed with a knife, followed Murali on the train proceeding from Gummidipoondi to Moore Market complex suburban railway station at around noon. He stabbed Murali on board the second rake of the train. The other commuters tried to rescue Murali and called for an ambulance. However, he was declared dead by doctors.

Ravinder, who managed to escape, was apprehended by the Korukkupet Government Railway Police after a special team was formed in the evening.

The body of the victim was sent to the Government Stanley Hospital for post mortem.
