As the city dolled up for the ongoing Global Investors’ Meet (GIM), the Adyar river played perfect host to an audio-visual laser show that boasted about the culture and achievements of the State. On till September 12, the 20-minute show — at 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. — is exclusively organised for the meet.

A massive fountain served as a projector to the well-synchronised image show on Wednesday. The laser show started with an outline of Tamil Nadu and went on to create landmark monuments in the city such as Central Station, Vivekananda House, National Art Gallery and Connemara library. Following this, the achievements of Tamil Nadu were displayed.

From school and college students to office-goers and senior citizens, the venue saw people from all walks of life. “I have never seen a laser show in my life. I have come all the way from Egmore to witness it. I begged my mother to bring me here,” said Ambika, a class VIII student.

The security was well organised with personnel placed along the fenced elevated walkway. “Around 300 to 400 people come here to watch the show. The venue can handle more than 500 patrons and we can handle larger crowds. A new walkway was laid along the bank exclusively for the show,” a police official said.

“Such laser shows can be a regular feature. It will give the neighbourhood the much-needed public space. It will also push the authorities to keep the river clean,” Aditya V., a resident of Adyar, said.
