Spotlight on instrument makers on World Music Day

While musicians are generally the focus of World Music Day celebrated on June 21, an event in the city decided to shine light on makers of musical instruments.

Naadhabrahmam, a monthly music journal, in association with Anujan Foundation, recognised 12 makers of musical instruments, mostly from economically backward backgrounds on Sunday, said a press release.

“We had people coming in from Kanyakumari, Rajapalayam and Manamadurai among other places. The oldest of them was 91-year-old A. Chinnappan from Thanjavur who makes

Mohan Parasaran, former Solicitor General of India, M. Narayanan, former CMD, Tourism Finance Corporation of India and V. Vasudevan, founder-trustee, Anujan Foundation, felicitated the awardees. They were given awards of Rs. 5,000 each, instituted by the foundation.
