Sukesh Chandrasekar (24), boyfriend of actor Leena Maria Paul, is now in the custody of a Chennai police team in New Delhi and will be brought to Chennai by train on Wednesday morning. He is wanted in two cases of cheating in which he is accused of siphoning off over Rs. 19 crore.
Officials of the central crime branch of the city police said Sukesh and Leena conned a Selaiyur-based businessman of Rs. 72 lakh in early 2013.
Posing as an IAS officer and his assistant, the duo offered a fake contract worth crores for catering work uniforms for various departments of the Karnataka government.
Earlier, the duo, along with another couple and a bank manager, obtained Rs. 19 crore as loan from a nationalised bank in Ambattur and fled with the cash. The bank authorities managed to block only Rs. 7 crore.
A joint operation by the bank fraud wing of CCB and Delhi police led to the arrest of Leena on May 28 but Sukesh managed to escape. On Thursday, a Delhi Police team had arrested Sukesh outside a shopping mall in Kolkata following specific information that he was on his way to Siliguri. He was remanded to custody and sent to a Delhi prison.
A CCB team took him into custody after receiving a transit warrant.
He will be remanded in custody here and sent to Puzhal prison.
