The 10th edition of Calicut Half Marathon, organised by the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK), will be held on February 24.

The marathon with the theme, ‘United Kerala - upholding the legacy’, aims to commemorate the resilience of Keralites as they fought the Nipah outbreak and the floods.

IIMK dean Rudra Sensarma told the media here on Friday that the marathon aimed to bring together people to convince them of the need to help one another for a better tomorrow. He said the IIMK would honour three sporting icons with a National Excellence Award on the occasion. The names of the awardees will be announced later, he added.

The event consists of a 21-km half-marathon, 10-km mini-marathon, and a 3-km dream run. The first two are competitive races, whereas the third is a non-competitive run featuring people from all walks of life. The total prize money for the event is ₹4.5 lakh.

IIMK students will be holding various events in the run-up to the marathon, including walk-the-talk (in association with Niravu Vengeri), warm-up run, road safety event, cycle rally, lantern event, midnight run at the IIMK, and flash mobs. The run will begin from the Kozhikode beach and will pass through various points in the city in the early hours.

Assistant Collector Anju K.S. officially launched the event and the marathon website www.calicutmarathon.in where one can register to participate in the event. Mr. Sensarma presented the first ticket to her.

A.K. Rastogi, chief technology officer of Peekay Steel Castings, launched the race day shirt. M. Julius George, chief administrative officer, and Arqum Mateen, chairperson (student affairs), IIMK, were present.
