The coverage of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) has improved in the district. In the last two years, an amount of Rs.170 crore was disbursed as wages.
The average employment in the district under the scheme went up to 45.59 working days in 2012-13.
It was 35.62 the previous year.
District coordinator of the programme K. Yusuf said 98,24,950 work days were generated in 2011-13 for the benefit of 2,42,346 families. As many as 23,596 works were completed under the programme.
In 2012-13 period, 16,053 families were given 100 work days. Among the beneficiaries were 23,862 Scheduled Caste families and 1,518 families that belonged to the Scheduled Tribes.
The MGNREGS was being implemented in Kozhikode from 2008-09.
A majority of its beneficiaries were women, a press release issued here on Wednesday said.
