Onchiyam case: prosecution blames CPI(M)

The prosecution in the T.P. Chandrasekaharan murder case here on Friday argued before the trial court that the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader had no enemies except some members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)].

The special prosecutor C.K. Sreedharan, who continued with his final arguments before R. Narayana Pisharadi, judge, Special Additional Sessions Court (Marad Cases), said that the deposition of K.K. Rema, wife of Chandrasekharan and fifth prosecution witness, was an important evidence in the case.

The case related to a hired gang hacking Chandrasekharan to death at Onchiyam at 10.15 p.m. on May 4, 2012.

Role of alleged killers

The statements of the witness on the role of the alleged seven killers – M.C. Anoop, Manoj Kumar aka Kirmani Manoj, N.K. Sunil Kumar aka Kodi Suni, T.K. Rajeesh, K.K. Muhammed Shafi, Shijith aka Annan Shijith and K. Shinoj – were equally significant, Mr. Sreedharan said.

Clinching evidence

The special prosecutor also said the statements of witnesses and documents presented before the court were clinching evidence showing the involvement of the accused in the case.

The court could consider the statements of Ms. Rema as genuine, he added.

Several attempts were also earlier made to finish off Chandrasekharan. Ms. Rema had stated before the court that her husband had received threats that he would be killed, he said.

Mr. Sreedharan said the investigators had obtained clear evidence revealing the close relationship the accused shared.

A photograph of Kirmani Manoj (second accused) and Shafi (fifth accused) sitting together in a bar in Mahe on April 24, 2012, and taken by Anoop (first accused) in his mobile phone showed they were close buddies.

The fingerprints of Anoop had been obtained from a Tata Nano car used by him for escaping after committing the crime.

Tailor’s statement

The statements of K. Achuthan, a tailor, who was running a shop at Kunnmmakkara, also revealed that the CPI(M) had nursed a grudge against Chandrasekharan who had left the CPI(M) and formed the RMP.

Mr. Sreedharan said Ms. Rema had testified that Chandrasekharan had told her a week before he was killed that the CPI(M) would do nothing without the knowledge of four of those accused — C.H. Ashokan and K.K. Krishnan, secretary and member, respectively, of its Onchiyam area committee; K.C. Ramachandran, member of the Kunnummakkara local committee; and P. Mohanan, member of the district secretariat.

The final arguments by the prosecution will continue on Monday.
