District Collector T.V. Subhash organised a meeting with the people and representatives of political parties to discuss the development and alignment of the Mananthavady-Mattannur road for the easy movement of vehicle to the Kannur International Airport.

The 63.5-km-long road passes through Boys Town, Peravoor, and Shivapuram.

Discussion were also held for 33-km-long stretch of Kutiyatoor-Nadapuram- Peringatur-Mekunnu-Panur-Pookkodu -Koothuparamba -Mattannur road and the 28.5-km Thalassery-Koduvalli- Mambaram -Ancharakandy-Mattannur road.

The Collector said the existing roads are scientifically expanded to 24 metres by constructing new bypasses to minimize bends and distances. The final alignment will be published after more discussions soon. After this, a detailed DPR of roads will be prepared. Alignment and DPR are prepared by an agency, he added

Sunny Joseph, MLA, said that instead of widening the road from 44th Mile to Thalappuzha on Mananthavadi-Mattannur road, a parallel road through forest should be considered. On one side of the present road are huge rocks and on the other side are steep columns, he pointed.

He also requested the government to prepare a special package for the development of roads including the Malaechovva-Chalod- Vayanthode- Airport Road (26.3km), and Taliparamba-Cherukkula, Nanierikadavu-Palai -Mayil-Chalod road.

The meeting demanded compensation for the land, houses, buildings, and shops.
