The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) will now be giving internet facility to 714 schools. This is to ensure that teachers are encouraged to do research and communicate with parents efficiently.
Internet facility will make administrative work easier for the 579 primary and 135 secondary schools and help with inter-school communication. It will also help teachers research topics, teaching material and methods. The BMC has tied up with MTNL and selected a plan that allows the schools unlimited internet. Every connection will cost BMC ₹532.
All internet use will be documented as the BMC has already issued instructions that misuse will not be allowed. The fixed-line facility will allow calling through the telephones.
Additional Municipal Commissioner A.L. Jarhad said, “Teachers will also be able to access information about government regulations and schemes and stay up-to-date on their subjects.”
The BMC has around 4 lakh students in its primary and secondary schools, run in eight language mediums, mostly Marathi and English. The BMC has set aside ₹2,733 crore for its Education budget in the coming financia l year.
