Mumbai: A Borivali court on Saturday rejected an application filed by self-styled godwoman Sukhvinder Kaur alias Radhe Maa requesting she not be made a party in a dowry harassment case.
A 32-year-old Borivali resident had alleged that Radhe Maa tortured her, and instigated her in-laws to demand dowry and torture her. The complainant has also alleged her in-laws would insist Radhe Maa was god, and that she would have to perform puja, for which money and jewellery would be required.
In her application, Radhe Maa claimed she cannot be made a party as she is not the accused’s blood relative, and does not share the same household. The matter will be heard again on September 19. A case was filed against her on August 5 last year after the magistrate ordered the police to probe the allegations.

She has been charged under IPC sections 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), and relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act. She was granted anticipatory bail by the HC.
