Mumbai: Singer Nitin Bali, who was known for his remixes of popular yesteryear numbers, died on Tuesday after being injured, allegedly while driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to the Kasturba Marg police, Bali (47), a Malad resident, was driving his Hyundai Getz when he lost control and hit the divider near Jashn Bar and Restaurant in Borivali (East) around 12.30 a.m..
Eyewitnesses rushed Bali to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar hospital in Kandivali (West). “A blood sample test at the hospital confirmed that Bali was inebriated at the time of the accident,” an officer with the Kasturba Marg police said. Later in the morning, Mr. Bali got himself shifted to Raksha Hospital in Malwani, where he succumbed to injuries around 4 p.m. The hospital informed the Kasturba Marg police.
“We have registered an accidental death report. After we have all relevant documents from both hospitals, we might posthumously book Bali for endangering life due to driving under the influence of alcohol,” the officer said.
While senior police inspector Sanjeev Pimple, Kasturba Marg police station, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajaram Prabhu, Dahisar division, could not be reached for confirmation, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone XI) Sangramsinh Nishandar, when asked about the drunk driving, said he does not not have any idea.
A remix singer who shot to fame in the 1990s, Bali was famous for his renditions of songs like ‘ Neele Neele Ambar’ and ‘ Ek Ajnabee Haseena Se’ , and delivered several popular music albums.
