Maharashtra Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Saturday, a day after he put in his papers. Mr Rao has asked Mr Chavan to continue until alternate arrangements are made, a communication from the Governor’s office said.
Mr. Chavan resigned after the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) withdrew from the government, reducing it to a minority. The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded President’s Rule in the state, which faces elections in less than three weeks. The Governor is consulting legal experts on the issue.
