Justice Pradeep Nandrajog will be sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court by Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao at Raj Bhavan on Sunday.
He was elevated as the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court on April 2, 2017, and will succeed Chief Justice Naresh Patil, who was appointed on October 24, 2018.
On March 28, the Collegium of the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Justices S.A. Bobde, N.V. Ramana, Arun Mishra and R.F. Nariman recommended Justice Nandrajog for the post.
The Collegium resolution reads, “Office of the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court would be falling vacant shortly, consequent upon retirement of Mr. Justice N.H. Patil, Chief Justice of that High Court on 6th April, 2019. Therefore, appointment to that office is required to be made. The Collegium resolves to recommend that Mr. Justice Pradeep Nandrajog, Chief Justice, Rajasthan High Court [PHC: Delhi], be transferred, in the interest of better administration of justice, to Bombay High Court.”
Justice Nandrajog completed his bachelor’s degree in Law from Delhi University in 1981 and enrolled as an advocate the same year. As a lawyer, he took up matters pertaining to arbitration, commercial, service, election, land, revenue, company and other matters. He was also a counsel for the municipal corporation of Delhi for about six years and represented the Election Commission of the Delhi government for over two years. He became an additional judge of the Delhi High Court on December 20, 2002, and a permanent judge on April 16, 2004.
