Sarkar 3 makers told to credit writer

Mumbai: Four days before the release of Sarkar 3 , the Bombay High Court on Monday directed the filmmakers to give credit for the film’s script to Nilesh Girkar.

A Vacation Bench headed by Justice Gautam Patel was hearing a suit filed by Mr. Girkar alleging that he had written the script for the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer — slated for release on May 12 — and was not given due credit for it.

The court said, “Credit has to be given to Mr. Girkar in exactly the same manner, ‘Based on a story written by Nilesh Girkar’. This has to appear in the opening credits with the same pause, font and prominence as equivalent credits.”

The court was informed that some digital prints for international theatrical release have already been dispatched and it would be difficult to incorporate this credit in those prints. The court accepted the statement, but only on the condition that the credit would appear in all other prints, including international satellite and cable, all other digital platforms, and all domestic releases, whether theatrical or on any platform.

The filmmakers submitted an undertaking for the same, which was taken on record by the court.

An amount of ₹6.2 lakh was deposited in court by the filmmakers towards the balance claimed by Mr. Girkar as his fees, and both parties have agreed that Mr. Girkar be allowed to withdraw the amount.
