Unaided schools and their associations in the city have written to the education department, demanding that the department either stop sending students under the Right to Education (RTE) Act or clear their pending reimbursements.

According to the Independent English Schools Association (IESA), around 60% of budget schools in the State have been declared ineligible for the reimbursements of RTE students under a government resolution (GR) issued in January. However, several of these schools have received applications for the upcoming academic year, while reimbursements of the previous years are pending.
Rajendra Singh of IESA said the GR contradicts the RTE Act. “These schools that have now been declared ineligible were admitting students under the RTE Act until last year. We wonder how they have suddenly become ineligible, now that we are fighting for the pending reimbursements,” Mr. Singh said.
He said the reimbursement is not an option, but the right of schools. “All these budget schools are running under the affiliation of the State government. When it comes to reimbursements, their eligibility is questioned,” he said.
